Bali : Double Trouble – Mount Batur + Mount Agung

Bali : Double Trouble – Mount Batur + Mount Agung

Most people go to Bali for a relaxing holiday, dreaming of being in an idyllic setting; lying on the beach chair in one of the numerous resorts or slow walks through small towns and the paddy fields.

You could do that, or you could be exploring the active Volcanoes in Bali and gazing at the milky way while waiting for sunrise.

Welcome to my 4 days 3 nights 2 Volcanoes and 1-actual-full-night-sleep itinerary for you.

Bali boasts 2 active volcanoes. The majestic Mount Agung and its little sister Mount Batur. You can hike both volcanoes within 2 days as both are overnight hikes of varying difficulties.

Mount Batur(1,717m) is one of the most popular sunrise treks in Bali.  Many tourists, by many I do mean hordes of tourists, combine their Bali trip with an overnight climb to the summit to watch the sunrise. This is an easy climb of about 2 hours to the summit so anyone can complete it.

Towering at 3,033 meters above sea level, Mount Agung is the highest mountain on the island of Bali and the fifth highest volcano in the whole of Indonesia. The hike can be done without camping, but it takes around 5h -8h up (depending on which routes you take) and another 5h down. The routes and the time needed will be detailed later on

For those who want a get-away and is sick of doing standard sightseeing for Bali, this is for you. My trip was based on a few core concepts which were to take as little leave needed while being able to climb both volcanoes.

Brief Itinerary (4 days 3 nights)

Day 1 –

Land in Bali in the afternoon. 1.5 h Journey to Ubud. Ubud is a good in-between point for both volcanoes.

Find accommodation and Batur hike in Ubud that evening, have dinner and take a rest.

Day 2 –

02.30 : Wake up for Batur Hike.

06.00 : Summit Batur.

09.00 : Reach down from Batur.

11.00 : Back to Ubud. Relax in the afternoon, prepare for Mount Agung Hike.

22.00 : Pick up from accommodation, set off to Mount Agung.

Day 3 –

00.00 : Start of Agung Hike.

05.00 : Reach Summit of Agung .

11.00 : Reach back to starting point

13.00 onwards : Reach back Ubud. R&R in Ubud / food trail/massage for the rest of the day. This is your only full night rest.

Day 4 :

– R&R

*If you are really chiong ( which means overzealous), you could fly back on day 3 and only take 1 day of leave. The best would be to have 2 more days in Bali to relax actually. 4 days which is with 2 days of leave over a weekend is just nice, so extend it at your own leisure to be more comfortable.

Always give exact notes and give each note clearly.
